Ellie went into her dorm after lessons and dumped her bag on her bed. She took her robes off from over her head to reveal her school uniform. She changed into jeans and a plain black top, before putting on her black jacket over the top. She let her hair dwon from the ponytail she had it in during school and left the dorm again.
She walked thorugh the school but everyone seemed to be everywhere else. She sighed and walked outside, ending up under the gazebo. She sat on a bench and put her head n her hands, faces and thoughts flashing thorugh her mind, mingled with homework she had to do and her lessons from the day

During the last class of the day, the lack of sleep Damien had received the night before was finally kicking in and resting his head on the table for just a moment turned into a deep sleep as the professor monologued for hours on end. The sound of footsteps exiting the room and shuffle of papers woke him up and he slowly lifted his head. His hair fell in different directions and faint red marks went across the right side of his face where his head lay against his things as he slept.
Whenever he finally got the energy to stand to his feet, he left the classroom in a drag just as the professor began to tell him the consquences of resting in his class again. Damien wasn't sure where to go, but he knew for a fact that he wanted to get outside and away from everyone else. The lake was a magnet for students at Hogwarts and Damien was no different when it came to the soothing waters.
He made his way past groups of giggling girls and guys with nothing better to talk about than the best looking girl at the school, rating them on a scale they created themselves. Maybe that's why Damien tended to be a loner at this school. Not only was he new here, but people didn't understand what good conversations were about.
With his hair still messed up, he walked into the gazebo silently and was ready to sit down when he saw Ellie with her face in her hands. He sat down next to her, not sure whether he should disturb her or not and placed his hands on his thighs. "You okay?" He finally spoke with his soothing voice.

Ellie looked up at the familiar voice, "Oh hi Damien" she said with a small smile, it wasn't that she wasn't glad to see him, it was just her mood didn't permit her to smile properly. "Not particularly, yourself?" There were faint red marks on his cheek from what she could see, how they got there on the other hand was a mystery.
She put her head on one hand and looked at him sideways, brushing her hair out of her face. Even though the two of them were three years apart they were really close, not as close as she was to Darius, but closer than she was to Summer, just to put it into perspective. She hadn't seen much of either of them either, which was odd

Damien tried his best to look sympathetic, but with his body still lacked the right amount of energy to give a proper smile so it looked more like a disgruntled frown. He rubbed his eyes and yawned, trying his best to stay awake and see what was the matter with his Ravenclaw friend. It had been a while since he had seen her so her problems had probably piled up since the last time they had spoken.
"And what's bothering you then?" He asked her. Asking a girl what was the matter was usually just something guys asked to be kind, but they usually knew what was the problem. If it wasn't about a guy (which 99.9% of the time it was) it had something to with their families or self confidence (a meer chance of that). He shrugged when she asked how he was. There wasn't really anything to tell about his life at the moment. "I'm alright." He said with another yawn.
These two Ravenclaw students had become close through the years, even though their age difference was pretty distant. Ellie was one of the few people that greeted and conversed with him when he first came to the school from Ontario. So, naturally they kept talking and getting to know each other.

She wondered how to say what was the matter, but he was one of her best friends, she could tell him things. There was a lot to say though.
"Nan went into hospital after a heart attack and they couldn't save her" She started, hopingshe wouldn't go into a rant like she with everyone else, she could feel the teasr forming behind her eyes already, "Grandad fitted afterwards and I am going to spend the next few summers in a childrens home." That was just the start of her problems, the fact she had no family left, everyone seemed to think that a big thing but she had been used ot only having her nan and grandad left and it was easier to adjust than people expected of her.
"I once upon a time didn't even speak to many guys and now two like me, and I like someone aswell which is just confusing as hell, and the teachers are all pressurising us about OWLs next year" Her problems in a nutchell, she didn't want to go into the rest of them, she was too tired. Her eyes were brimming with tears which she sent back, she wouldn't cry again in front of another best friend, not again. She had too much pride for her own good

One of the things most people liked about Damien was that he would sit and listen to anyone (with the exception of teachers of course) and try his best to help and understand, but understanding was usually the difficult part of it all. When the worst thing that had ever happened to him was the big move from Canada to England, it was usually hard to relate to the trauma of others. He placed one arm around her shoulders for comfort and turned his head so he was looking straight at her.
Her first statement was enough to make him feel her pain. Sure, he had never lost anyone close before, but for some reason he had the same emotion inside. He gave her a slight hug by pulling her a little closer to him then pulling back. "You can stay with me whenever you want." He smiled. He was used to being pulling the older brother act out.
See, there was the guy problem. "You should be happy. Did you think you would get by being pretty forever?" He complimented. "The teachers are supposed to ruin our lives with work, don't worry about it. You're brilliant." Even though this was Damien's last year at the school, he was still his procrastinating self. She hugged him, "Thanks" She already had Darius and Summer offering, and now Damien. He was more of a big brother than Darius, but everyone was different.
"I'm nothign special, there are lots of girls prettier than me in the school" Ellie was naturally negative about herself. Probably underneath she was smiling at the comment, but as far as she knew she wasn't pretty. "Teachers aren't the problem, getting peace and quiet to do the homework is"

By now, Damien's red marks had faded completely and he was finally beginning to wake up a little. It was now a proven fact that if he didn't get at least seven hours of sleep each night, he was basically dead tired the next day. His hair was falling into it's natural part and he finally looked like a normal Ravenclaw boy that hadn't been sleeping the past hour.
He nodded in a way of saying "You're welcome" to her whilst flashing her a sympathetic smile. True enough, he wasn't exactly the best at giving compliments, but he knew Ellie wasn't exactly the best at taking them. "Now you're wrong about that. Do you honestly think that two guys would like you if you were nothing special?" He removed his arm from her shoulders and put his hands back on his thighs and gently squeezed them. He was naturally a thin guy, and could practically wrap his whole hand around his leg.
Peace and quiet was really hard to find around this place. What with girls giggling about the latest gossip and rumor of the day it was difficult to get time to yourself. "True that." He smiled in her direction and turned his glance toward the outside world.

She didn't know how to respond to that, she knew he was right, but she couldn't see the things about her everyone else seemed to. Her hair fell over her shoulders, today full of blue clip in highlights and braids, but these braids were getting boring now, she needed something new.
She murmured an agreement before looking up at a familiar hoot. Serenity was nestled on the roof of the gazebo and was no sooner on Ellies knee, hooting softly. The snowy owl was carrying a letter on her foot which Ellie put in her pocket, before stroking the bird gently

Damien could tell her silence was a good sign, and that she had come to agreement. Unlike some people at this school he didn't hang out with people for physical appearance, but there was no denying that Eleanor Smith was something to stare at. He never liked her as the other guys did though, it was more of a sibling relationship, and that's how he intended it to remain. He was more of the type of guy that tended to have tons of friends that were girls and never get himself into a serious relationship with any of them, that was just Damien Rhean for you.
His attention was also caught by the hoot of her owl and he turned to look at it. He was never one to like animals ever since an owl had almost bitten his finger off when he was younger. He despised the thing and gave Serenity an insulting look, like being an animal with feathers was something to hate yourself for. He usually just borrowed his friends' owls if he ever needed to send letters, which he usually retrained from. He was sitting there having a staring contest with her owl in the silence, which probably looked a little strange.

She couldn't tell what he was thinking, normally you could tell by the look in someones eyes, or she could tell anyway, but he was harder to read. Serenity clicked her beak as he gave her a glare and Ellie looked at the strange behavious between her friend and her owl with a look of confusion on her face. She let the owl onto her arm before she flew up to the Owlery for some sleep.
"You know you really shouldn't glare at owls, seeing as they are incapable of glaring back" She said with a smile, everyone knew owls didn't have the ability of frowning, come one, they couldn't move their eyes left and right, how could they frown? "And people will think you are pretty weird if you sit trying to outstare an owl" She didn't really care, but she had seen some fifth years giving them a funny look, even though these were the fifth year girls who also gave her funny looks when she sat on the window seat in the Library, so maybe they were just weird

Damien continued his glaring at the feathery beast until he heard Ellie speak. His narrowed eyes became their normal size and flickered back over to her face. He noticed the strange looks she was giving towards his even stranger looks to her owl and couldn't help but chuckle to himself. He was used to his actions being ignored or going un-noticed by others around him and had completely forgetten Eleanor was there was that moment.
He smiled. "Well if they could glare, I'm positive they would. They hate me on contact, and I hate them. Bloody things want to eat me for breakfast." He was pretty sure owls were also incapable of eating people, but he didn't give up the fact that if they were slightly bigger they would consume him in a heart beat. As the owl flew away he relaxed his muscles and smoothed his hair down in a proper fashion.
Damien gave her an odd look at her last comment. Of course he was weird. It was pretty hard to hide the fact he had his random moments of hyperness and strange ways of thinking. "Well who's actually normal at this school anyway?" He asked rhetorically. It was a magic school for Christ's sake. Anyone with eyes could see people who went here were far from normal. Damien was just a different kind of weird.

She laughed, "Damien is scared of a little bird or two?" she said in a childish voice and patted his shoulder. Judging by his expression he usually went unnoticed in his odd ways but Ellie noticed everything, mainly the things that no one else did. "They probably would, but for now they can't so don't rub it in, it probably makes them feel bad." The eating him part confused her slightly, the owl was about as big as his head! How could she eat him, she decided not to comment on that.
"True" She agreed, but still, no one sat and tried to outstare owls, except him. Oh well.

Damien rolled his eyes at her comment. "They aren't little." He muttered whilst looking down at his converse. He then smiled and lifted his eyes and raised his head towards her. His little fear of birds was a constant reminder of how weird he really was. Not many people would agree that they two were afraid of things that rarely caused any harm to humans.
He laughed. "Well then they can go on and feel bad about themselves. They deserve to have a low self esteem." He couldn't help but want to laugh at himself. What was he talking about? Owls with low self esteem? That was like saying birds were going through depression. He was definately proving her point of being strange. Man eating birds that glared and went through depression. That didn't get much weirder. Maybe Damien needed to re-evaluate his outlook on some things.

She shook her head and smiled at his comments, "Only you could say things like that." She said with laughed. Owls being depressed? Oh well.
"how do you plan to spend your last year then?" She asked, playing with her hair again, her oldest habit.
