Lisa walked up to the owlry, knowing that her father would be sending her a letter soon. She didn't feel like waiting in the halls of the school, the smell of them bugged her.
A black owl swooped in and landed on a large, cement colum. She walked over to it, "Hey Lars." She said softly to her owl, petting the top of his head lightly. Lisa took the letter out of his beak and let Lars softly bit her finger before flying up into a cubby where he fell asleep right way.
Dearest daughter, Lisa imediatly rolled her eyes at the beginning of her fathers letters. Was he trying to make up for sending her here? The house is so quiet with out you around sweetheart and I miss you a great deal. Your mom and I went out to lunch after we dropped you off and we're happy that we decided to send you to Hogwarts. We both hope you have a marvelous time...
By this point Lisa was entierly frustrated with the letter. She ripped it up and threw it out the door. Her heart was pounding loudly in her ears and she walked over and opened a large window. She stuck her head out, trying to calm down.

Jamie walked into the owlery, bored. He noticed Lisa looking upset by the window and went over to her. Uncomfortable as he was talking about feelings and such, he asked, "You ok? You look upset."

Lisa spun around, anger filling her voice, "That's a rather stupid question to ask if you already knew the answer." It was still hard to be nice to people here, the way they expected to be your best friend from the minute they met you bugged her the most. She walked over to her sleeping owl and pet him softly on the head.

He lifted his hands in an "I surrender" manner. "Sorry." He turned and fished a letter out of the pocket of his robes. Jamie tied it to the leg of a tawny owl and watched the owl fly obligingly out of the window.

Lars, her owl, didn't move. She sighed knowing that this meant he wanted to be left alone. Lisa turned to the boy, "Why would you care anyways? Boys don't care much about feelings so it's rather stupid to walk up to someone you hardly know and ask them how they are." She sneered in his direction.

"Touchy, touchy." He said, turning back to face her. "If you don't want to tell me what's wrong, then I won't ask anymore."

Lisa narrowed her eyes at him, "Why'd you ask in the first place then?" Her voice was still filled with anger. She need to see if people could put up with her this way first, because if they couldn't, they didn't deserve to really get to know her.

"I'll go out of my way to help a housemate if need be." He said, wondering how long she would be snapping at him this way.

"And how do you know I'm a house mate?" She said in a softer but still harsh tone. She knew how he knew they were house mates, they had seen each other several times in the common room. Since it was the weekend she wasn't wearing her robes, just a ratty old pair of jeans, a black t-shirt and a light jacket, zipped up half way.

"If I hadn't seen you in the common room before, it still would've been obvious." He stated.

She raised an eye brow at him, "Was that supposed to be funny?" She shifted and leaned against the window sill, her hands placed firmly on her hips.

"Maybe, maybe not." He said, bored.

Lisa sighed, realizing that he wasn't bothered by her sneering at him. She fixed a ring on her right hand then looked up at him. "Why are you even bothering talking to me?"

"Well, I was alone, you were alone, and I thought you could use some company." Jamie answered, giving her the best reply he could. Actually, he happened to be extremely bored, but she could probably tell anyway.

Lisa shrugged off her hating additude. She decided to be a bit nice and see where it got her. The words struggled out of her mouth because she had grown so used to letting every word coming out of her mouth be bitter, "How are you...?"
